My brief tour of Egypt in September 1999 was the most magical journey I had ever experienced. Upon landing within this country, the energy that emitted from this mystical land is something I still cannot explain. I actually felt as if I belonged there or had been there before. Maybe in another lifetime? Who knows...

I began loading photos of my journey and originally included all the pictures of the pyramids, hieroglyphs, and tombs. However, I thought...there are so many photos available of those subjects already online that why not just include photos that would otherwise not be posted?  So instead, I'd like to share with you the other aspects of Egypt that you don't typically see anywhere else.

In the meantime, should you have the pleasure of going yourself, I highly recommend going to see the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Whirling Dervish performance, as well as the typical tour of the tombs and pyramids. Seeing these magnificent, ancient artifacts is something beyond belief - regardless of all the Discovery shows on TV that you may have watched about Egypt. If shopping is your thing, definitely visit the perfume stores and carpet schools. The perfume stores sell the pure essence of the fragrance without the additives of alcohol and other preservatives (great if you have sensitive skin and are typically allergic to perfume products). The carpet schools sell handcrafted carpets made from the students and are of exquisite detail and workmanship.

I only got to visit a small portion of the country - Giza and Cairo and a few cities in between for the few days (about 9) I was there. This is definitely a country that I hope to revisit again on a longer journey where I can stay for at least two weeks.
